Public Transportation in South Korea

Getting to and from South Korea:
By Air
Most international flights fly into Incheon International Airport, an hour outside of Seoul. There are also international airports in Busan and on Jejudo island.

Many airlines service Korea and Korea’s own carriers are Korean Air and Asiana Airlines.

Getting around South Korea:
By Air
Through Korean Air and Asiana Air travelers can get all over South Korea, and prices are usually quite reasonable. The longest flight time for a domestic flight is just over an hour, from Seoul Gimpo to Jejudo.

By Train
Korea has an excellent train network, which is operated by Korea National Railroad. Tickets can be purchased online at www.korail.go.kr. Trains are comfortable and reliable way to travel.

Korea offers four classes of train:

  1. KTX – is the high-speed train that can travel over 300km/h.
  2. Saemaul trains – are the next fastest, only stop in major cities and are quite luxurious.
  3. Mugunghwa trains – stop more often than the Saemaul trains, but are almost as fast and comfortable.
  4. Tonggeun (commuter) trains – are the cheapest and stop at every station.

By Bus
There are thousands of buses that run daily connecting major cities to towns and villages. The buses run frequently, but the time tables are usually approximate (sometimes buses leave earlier). There aren’t toilets on the buses, but on long journeys bus drivers stop every couple hours at a refreshment stop. Tickets can usually be bought the day of right at the bus station
