Expectations

Studying or interning abroad can be one of the most exciting and life-changing experiences of your son or daughter's life.  However, we understand that it can be a big step for the entire family.

From the initial phone call or email all the way to after the student returns home, GlobaLinks Learning Abroad supports the student and their parents.  We are available 8 am - 5 pm MT by phone at 1-800-980-0033 or by email at [email protected].  If an emergency should arise while the student is studying or interning abroad, we also have an emergency response plan in place.

Students will have their own personal program coordinator to assist them with the application, pre-departure, overseas, and return experience.  Coordinators will communicate directly with students via email, phone, and our online account management system called MyLearn.  Students will be instructed to check their MyLearn account frequently for program updates, to submit forms, to select classes, to apply for scholarships, etc.  While parents can always contact GlobaLinks Learning Abroad with questions, coordinators will only be contacting students directly.  We want to ensure that students get the most out of their overseas experience and taking ownership of the process themselves gets them started on the right track.

Before your son or daughter studies or interns abroad, we encourage you to talk to them about what you expect of them while they are abroad.  Read more about staying in touch and travel advice for families.

A few expectations we have of our students:

  • Communicate: with us, their parents, and their home university
  • Meet deadlines: it's important for students to submit forms on time and make payments according to the payment schedule
  • Make the most of their time abroad: studying or interning abroad can be life-changing and we hope our students take advantage of all the opportunities offered to get the most out of their experience
