The University of Economics and CESP
Founded in 1919, the University of Economics, Prague (Vysoká škola ekonomická v Praze) is the leading university in the field of management and economics in the Czech Republic. In fact, it was recently awarded as the best business school in Central and Eastern Europe. The university has 6 academic departments: the Faculties of Finance and Accounting, International Relations, Business Administration, Statistics, Informatics, and Economics and Public Administration.
The Central and East European Studies Program is a self-financed extension program founded at the University of Economics, Prague (VŠE). All courses have been fully accredited only after scrutiny and review by the Academic Accreditation Committee of VŠE. A VŠE transcript with credits and grades is issued upon successful completion of the program.
Summer University
CESP organizes a Summer University in Prague for international students lasting four weeks. This summer study abroad program offers intensive versions of basic CESP courses, field trips and excursions. The courses, taught in English, include international trade, models of economic transformation in post-socialist countries, European cultural history and its impact on Central Europe, and international marketing communications.
To date, CESP has taught students from various countries such as Argentina, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Cameroon, Denmark, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hong-Kong, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Norway, Romania, Russia, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands, Turkey, the United States and Uruguay.

Academic Highlights
The CESP Summer program offers a total of four courses which are worth 2-3 credits each (4 ECTS), and are taught completely in English. GlobaLinks Learning Abroad summer study abroad students will enroll in one - three of the available courses.
Available courses are condensed versions of those taught during the academic year. Summer offerings are generally confirmed in late February.

LocationThe Czech Republic is a region rich in history and culture. Situated in the center of Europe, or as Czechs proudly say “in the heart of Europe,” it is a bridge between East and West, both geographically and culturally.
The University of Economics is located in the center of Prague, the capitol of the Czech Republic. It is within a couple minutes walk from historical monuments, medieval churches and other sites soaked with history. Prague is an extremely popular city in the eastern European region. In this city, a long and rich history is combined with rapid industrial growth and a modern city life.

HousingAccommodation for CESP study abroad students is provided in the Jarov C, D and E student dormitories located 20 minutes by tram from campus. Renovated in 2008, the modern facilities consist of 2 four story buildings. Both Czech and international students are housed in these accommodations. The residence hall is comprised of twin-share bedrooms that are located in three-room flats or apartments.
Students are assigned to stay in the room with a person of the same sex. Every flat unit consists of a kitchen with a table, a cupboard (without cooking utensils and dishes), an electric hot plate and a fridge. A bathroom with a shower, wash-basin and toilet is also located inside the flat. Students can purchase utensils together upon arrival. While many Czech students choose to prepare their own meals or eat out, you may also take advantage of the student cafeterias located at the university or in the dormitory area which serve both lunch and dinner. Typical Czech cuisine includes a meat dish served with potatoes, dumplings, rice, or pasta.
There is a connection to the university computer network for every student in their accommodations. A high-speed internet connection enables communication with parents and friends at home.

University ServicesThere are many on-campus facilities, including two restaurants, a coffee lounge, and two school cafeterias. In addition to a number of computer labs for students (including one designed specifically for international students), wireless internet access is available on campus. The University of Economics is also equipped with Smart Classrooms to enhance student learning.
Study abroad students have access to the university library as well as several other state and institutional libraries, including the National Library of the Czech Republic, the National Technical Library, and the Municipal Library of Prague. The university gym is located close by.
There is the student organization called Buddy System at the university. Buddy System gives foreign students “ a friend” - Czech buddy - that advises and helps them with accommodation in dormitories, orientation in school and in Prague and many other things.
The CESP Office is the first point of contact for CESP students at the University of Economics and is available to answer any questions students may have about their studies throughout the duration of the CESP program.

Special Programs and Excursions
Buddy system program
The Erasmus Student Network (ESN) VSE Praha - Buddy System is an organization that facilitates the cultural integration and social life of foreign students in the Czech Republic. Students from abroad are offered the opportunity to pair up with a Czech student who will help them to settle more easily into the new environment.
The organization helps upon arrival and throughout the student's stay, especially during the first few days. Summer study abroad students are met at the airport or the train/bus station, accompanied to the dormitory, and provided with a basic orientation to the city and school. The organization also helps with school and other formalities (school ID card, public transport pass, etc.).

Beyond our included orientation and excursions, you will be able to pre-book a wide variety of day, weekend, and week-long tours at a discounted price through our travel partner, STA Travel. These trips provide the ultimate flexibility for you to travel where you want to go, when you want to go, and with whom you want to go. Most trips have open dates, so you can pre-book the trip(s) that interest you, yet choose your dates later on once you're abroad. This flexibility also means friends that you make from other countries/programs or even your friends and family who are visiting you abroad can also participate. Learn more>

OrientationThere will be an Orientation Program on the very first day of the Summer University Program. During Orientation, students will register for courses, learn about the program they are about to undertake, and be introduced to the University of Economics campus and the surrounding area.

 The new Global Citizen Development modules are online learning components designed to help you explore your study abroad destination and experience at a whole new level. These modules are not mandatory; however, we strongly encourage your participation as they will introduce you to the opportunities and challenges you may encounter when participating in a study abroad program, as well as expose you to cultural insights and knowledge about your host country to help make your program abroad even more successful and fulfilling. Through the 3 modules, you will refine your skills in cross-cultural observation, adaptation, and communication.
