The Australian College of Physical Education (ACPE) is Australia’s leading provider of specialist undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in the related disciplines of Sport Management, Exercise Science, Coaching, Dance, and Physical Education. ACPE is recognized as a leading national provider of innovative career education in sport, physical activity, and health.
ACPE was founded in 1917 and in 2000 the college moved to its current site at Sydney Olympic Park, in the west Sydney suburb of Homebush Bay. The campus consists of one low-rise multi-story building housing classrooms, sports courts, offices, computer labs and lecture/meeting rooms, plus a separate building where the library is housed. The library has one of the most sport-focused print and online collections anywhere, plus numerous computers and study rooms. The New South Wales Institute of Sport is next door, and all of the main Olympic Park sports venues are within a 5-10 minute walk.
The location is one of the most unique in the world and tailor-made for any student interested in a full sport and health immersion, right in the middle of Sydney Olympic Park, home to many of Australia's top sport venues, dozens of professional and semi-pro sports teams, numerous special events year round, and all within an easy train ride to downtown Sydney and all of its attractions.
ACPE is fully accredited an accredited Higher Education Provider, registered with the New South Wales Department of Education & Training, and is recognized by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations. ACPE is included in the Australian Qualifications Framework register of Recognized Education Institutions and Authorized Accreditation Authorities in Australia.
LocationOne of our most uniquely located campuses, ACPE is situated in the Sydney Olympic Park. Not only will you study sport, exercise, training and physical education, you will be in a prime location that hosted the 2000 summer Olympic games plus miles of parkland with bicycling, walking, nature, and jogging paths.
ACPE and Olympic Park are located in the inner-west Sydney suburb of Homebush, a relatively new and fast-growing part of the metropolitan area that is 7 miles from Sydney's Central Business District. A modern train station serves the city, with connections to Sydney CDB in 30-40 minutes. Frequent busses are available to Sydney, and there is a free scheduled circulator bus that runs daily within Olympic Park. In addition, the Parramatta River borders the Park where a ferry can be taken into Sydney’s Circular Quay terminal.
ACPE students have access to the entire range of facilities and events at Sydney Olympic Park, which offers numerous major sporting events such as the National Rugby League Grand Final, National Swimming Championships, Medibank International Tennis Open, National Athletic Championships, Sydney Grand Prix auto racing event, and a growing number of national sports teams which call Sydney Olympic Park home. Currently there are more than 5,000 events held at the park each year, including the Sydney Royal Easter Show, Rugby Union, National Rugby League, Australian Football League and Australian Rugby League games at ANZ Stadium, national and international athletics and swimming events, concerts, boxing, the Big Day Out music festival and free, open-air performances as part of the Sydney Festival such as Movies in the Overflow and Music by Moonlight.
Over 40 different sports are played at the Park attracting over four million participants and spectators annually. Teams that currently call Sydney Olympic Park home: Netball – New South Wales (NSW) Swifts and Diamonds, Australian Football League (AFL) - Sydney Swans and the GWS Giants, Rugby League – the Bulldogs, Rabbitohs, the NSW State of Origin Blues and the NRL Grand Final teams, Football – Socceroos and Matildas, Rugby - Waratahs and Wallabies, Hockey – NSW Arrows, Hockeyroos and Kookaburras and Cricket - Sydney Thunder and the Australian Cricket Team (in 2012).
